This guide walks you through the complete Gemrize custom jewellery process, step by step, in plain language, with honest insight into what happens at each stage and what you can expect from us.

Gemrize is a custom and bespoke fine jewellery brand with over four generations of diamond and gem wholesaling expertise. We source directly from mines across Brazil, India, Africa and Russia, and work with clients worldwide to create pieces that are genuinely one of a kind. Our online process is designed to make bespoke jewellery accessible, transparent and personally meaningful, wherever in the world you are.

Step 1: Take the Gemrize Personalisation Quiz
Everything begins with our personalisation quiz. This is not a generic contact form, it is a carefully designed series of questions that helps our team understand your vision before any conversation takes place.
The quiz covers the basics: what type of piece you are looking for (ring, pendant, bracelet, earrings, or something else entirely), who it is for, what the occasion is if there is one, and what your budget range is. It also explores aesthetic preferences, do you prefer classic and timeless, or contemporary and distinctive? Minimalist or detailed? Yellow gold or white? Diamond or coloured stone?
You can also upload images of pieces you love, inspirations from other sources, or even rough sketches of your own idea. The more you share at this stage, the better our designers can serve you from the first conversation.
There is also a nominal design fee of USD $99 at this stage, which is deducted from your total when you place your order. This fee is not a sales barrier, it is what fairly compensates our sketch artists and 3D designers for their initial creative work.
Step 2: Your One-on-One Virtual Consultation
Once our team has reviewed your quiz submission, we will reach out to arrange a virtual consultation. This typically takes place via video call and lasts 30–60 minutes.
This conversation is genuinely collaborative. It is not a sales pitch. Our team will ask questions, share ideas, discuss trade-offs, and help you arrive at a clear brief for your piece. We will talk about budget realities with complete honesty, if your ideal piece is likely to exceed your stated budget, we will tell you, and we will explore the adjustments that could bring it within range without compromising what matters most to you.

Step 3: Initial Design Sketches
Based on the brief from your consultation, our design team produces initial hand sketches of your piece. These are genuine creative drawings, not templates adapted with minimal changes. Our designers draw with your specific vision in mind.
You will typically receive two or three sketch concepts that interpret your brief in slightly different ways. This gives you real options to react to, rather than simply approving or rejecting a single interpretation. Your feedback at this stage shapes everything that follows.
Some clients arrive with a very precise vision and the sketch stage confirms it immediately. Others use this stage as a dialogue, seeing options, combining elements from different concepts, refining proportions. Both are completely normal and both produce excellent results.
Step 4: 3D CAD Rendering, The Most Important Step
Once the sketch direction is confirmed, your piece is modelled in full 3D CAD (Computer-Aided Design). This produces a photorealistic digital render of exactly what your piece will look like in the real world, with the correct metal colour, stone placement, proportions and finishing.
This step is, in our view, the most important in the entire process. It is the moment when you can see, clearly and in detail, what you are about to have made. It eliminates ambiguity, prevents misunderstandings, and gives you the opportunity to request changes before any materials are committed.
Gemrize does not begin crafting any piece until the client has approved the 3D render. This is not a formality, it is a genuine commitment that we will not start production until you are completely satisfied with what we are going to make.
Changes at the 3D stage are straightforward and expected. Changes after crafting begins are expensive and time-consuming. We much prefer the former.
Step 5: Stone Sourcing
While the design is being refined, or once it has been approved, our diamond and gemstone experts begin sourcing the ideal centre stone and any accent stones for your piece.
Gemrize maintains an extensive certified diamond inventory across our Hong Kong and Mumbai offices, as well as active sourcing relationships with wholesale partners and mine connections in Brazil, India, Africa and Russia. This network, built over more than four generations, allows us to access stones that are simply not available through retail channels.
We will present you with a curated selection of stones that meet your design requirements and budget, with full transparency about each stone's characteristics, certification and cost. You choose the stone you want, we never make this selection without your involvement.
Step 6: Your Final Approval
Before we begin crafting, we seek your explicit approval of two things: the final 3D design, and the specific stone(s) that will be used. This is not a procedural checkbox, it is your final opportunity to ensure that everything is exactly as you want it before we start the irreversible process of turning your design into a physical piece.
We take this stage seriously because we respect the trust you have placed in us. Our internal principle is simple: we do not start until you are completely ready for us to start.
Step 7: Crafting, Where the Magic Happens
With your design and stone approved, our artisans begin handcrafting your piece. The specific techniques used depend on the design, casting, fabrication, stone setting, pavé work, engraving and hand-finishing may all be involved.
Gold is melted, shaped and formed to your exact specification. Stones are set with precision tools. Every element of the design that you reviewed in the 3D render is brought into physical reality, gram by gram and stone by stone.
The crafting timeline varies by piece complexity. A simpler ring might be completed in 2–3 weeks of production time. An intricate, multi-stone piece with detailed design elements might take 4–6 weeks. Your specific timeline will be confirmed at the outset and updated if anything changes.
Throughout the crafting process, Gemrize can provide progress updates on request. We have clients who prefer to be surprised, and clients who want regular check-ins. Both preferences are accommodated.
Step 8: Quality Control
Every Gemrize piece goes through a rigorous quality review before it is packaged for delivery. This review compares the finished piece against your approved 3D render and checks every element: the quality of the stone setting, the finish of the metal, the proportions of the design, any engraving or inscriptions, and the structural integrity of the piece.
If anything does not meet the standard, and this standard is set against your specific approval, not a generic template, it is corrected before the piece leaves our workshop. This commitment to quality is non-negotiable.
The piece is then professionally photographed and documented. This provides you with a permanent record of your piece, useful for insurance purposes and, more simply, for the pleasure of having beautiful images of something you commissioned and own.
Step 9: Secure Worldwide Delivery
Your finished piece is packaged in Gemrize's signature presentation box and shipped securely to your specified address, anywhere in the world. We use tracked, insured international couriers with full chain-of-custody documentation.
The shipping timeline varies by destination, typically 3–7 business days internationally. You will receive tracking information and can follow your piece's journey in real time.

How Long Does the Gemrize Process Take?
The complete process, from quiz to delivery, typically takes between 4 and 10 weeks. The timeline depends primarily on design complexity, stone sourcing requirements, and how many rounds of revision are needed at the sketch and CAD stages.
At the start of your project, our team will give you a realistic estimate. If your piece needs to be completed by a specific date, a proposal, a birthday, an anniversary, tell us at the outset and we will structure the process accordingly. Rush timelines can sometimes be accommodated where our production schedule allows.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to know what I want before I start?
Absolutely not. Many of our clients begin the process with only a vague sense of what they want, a feeling, an occasion, a budget. Our quiz and consultation are specifically designed to help you discover and articulate your vision. You do not need to be a jewellery expert. We are.
What if I want changes after seeing the 3D render?
Changes at the 3D render stage are completely normal and expected. We refine the design until you are satisfied, there is no limit to the number of revisions at this stage. This is exactly why the render stage exists.
Can I design custom jewellery as a gift without the recipient knowing?
Yes, and many clients do exactly this. We handle the process entirely with you and deliver to any address you specify. If you need guidance on sizing or preferences, we can advise on how to find this information discreetly.
What happens if I am not happy with the finished piece?
Because we do not begin crafting without your explicit approval of both the design and the stone, the likelihood of dissatisfaction is very low. In the rare instance that the finished piece differs from your approval in any significant way, we will address it. Our team is reachable throughout the process and we take every client's satisfaction seriously.
